Behling is UW-Richland Kaplan Award honoree


Lisa Behling, Richland Center, Student Affairs Coordinator at the University of WisconsinRichland campus, has been named recipient of the prestigious Arthur M. Kaplan Award for the current academic year. The award recognizes improvement of service to UW-Richland students. Behling, who joined the staff of the Richland Center UW campus in 1999, was chosen for innovations that have enhanced campus life, in particular in reaching out to prospective students and alumni, as well as helping to improve student life on campus.

Nominators note that she has developed innovative ways to communicate with high school students who are interested in learning more about UW-Richland, including a High School Guide, a collection of information about UW-Richland, updated annually and provided to area high school guidance offices.

She has enhanced training for Campus Ambassadors, student volunteers who provide campus tours to guests and who assist at special events; Behling serves as their advisor. As coordinator of campus advising services, she has established “Advisor Chat” training sessions held each semester to help new as well as continuing academic advisors. Nominators noted her creative contributions to Welcome Week, SummerTime Advising and Registration, and UW-Richland ROCKS Week events.

The Kaplan award, begun in 1993, includes funds to be used for professional development or supplies and equipment. The award totals $500, with $250 provided by the UW Colleges and $250 provided by the Richland County Campus Foundation. Behling plans to use the Kaplan award funds forcommunication technology to improve her work.

The Arthur M. Kaplan Award program was established to recognize the outstanding contributions made to education by UW Colleges faculty and academic staff. Each of the 13 campuses around the state that collectively make up the UW Colleges annually honors outstanding individual efforts with the Kaplan Award. The Arthur M. Kaplan Award recognizes the positive spirit of UW Colleges provost/vice chancellor emeritus Arthur M. Kaplan.
