Carpenter honored with UW-Richland Kaplan Award

Dr. Dennis Carpenter, Barneveld, associate professor of psychology/education at the University of Wisconsin-Richland campus, has been named recipient of the prestigious Arthur M. Kaplan Award for the current academic year. The award recognizes improvement of service to UW-Richland students.

Carpenter, who joined the Richland Center UW campus community in 2001, was chosen for innovations that enhance student success.

His nomination by a colleague highlighted Carpenter’s Introduction to Psychology courses, noting consistent efforts to evaluate and improve student learning through innovative teaching methods of great value to students.

Carpenter was recognized for sharing his experiences and research findings with colleagues and working with them to improve the UW-Richland educational experience. His service as an advisor to psychology and education majors was described as “consistently going above and beyond.” His service to the student retention committee was noted as extremely valuable, knowledgeable and effective.

For more information about Dr. Carpenter, see his profile page on the UW-Richland website. A reception in his honor is planned for February on campus.

The Kaplan award, initiated in 1993 and awarded annually, includes funds to be used for professional development, supplies or equipment. The award totals $500, with $250 provided by the UW Colleges and $250 provided by the Richland County Campus Foundation. Carpenter plans to use the Kaplan award funds to support student learning.

The Arthur M. Kaplan Award program was established to recognize the outstanding contributions made to education by UW Colleges faculty and academic staff.  Each of the 13 campuses around the state that collectively make up the UW Colleges annually honors outstanding individual efforts with the Kaplan Award. The Arthur M. Kaplan Award recognizes the positive spirit of UW Colleges provost/vice chancellor emeritus Arthur M. Kaplan.  ###
