Dr. Brandon Fetterly will begin service as associate dean of the University of Wisconsin-Richland starting June 1. The associate dean hires and supervises part-time instructors; works with curriculum planning; plays an instrumental role in Academic Alliance, UW-Richland’s concurrent enrollment program with a number of area high schools; will help implement the new BAAS-Bachelor of Applied Arts & Sciences degree; serves as liaison between academic departments and the campus; and otherwise assists the campus CEO/Dean with duties related to campus management.
Fetterly has served since 2005 as a member of the UW-Richland faculty and currently holds the title of associate professor of chemistry. In the associate dean position, a three-year appointment which is part-time, he will continue to teach chemistry on a half-time basis.
“I look forward to learning more about how the campus operates,” Fetterly said, “and to working with a lot of people we as faculty don’t usually work with. It’s an opportunity to learn and gain new skills.”
His university governance experience includes Fetterly’s present positions, a two-year term coming to a close as UW-Richland Senator to the UW Colleges Faculty Senate and as chair of the UW Colleges Institutional Safety Committee. The University of Wisconsin Colleges is the University of Wisconsin System’s network of 13 freshman/sophomore campuses and UW Colleges Online. At UW-Richland, Fetterly has served on most committees, including Steering, the campus executive committee, and he has chaired the Curriculum and Appointment Committees.
He earned his bachelor’s degree in chemistry and mathematics from St. Norbert College and his Ph.D. in organic chemistry from Iowa State University. He’s the recipient of awards that include UW Colleges Student Services Outstanding External Contributor (2011), Tetrahedron Most Cited Paper Award (2006-2009), Arthur M. Kaplan Award for improving service to students (2007), and UW-Richland students named him Roadrunner of the Year in 2006.
Fetterly will succeed Dr. Karen McLeer, associate professor of English, from Cobb, who has served as associate dean since 2005. McLeer will return to full-time teaching.
UW-Richland CEO/Dean Dr. Patrick Glenn Hagen said, “It has been a pleasure working with Dr. Karen McLeer as associate dean. She is a wise and prudent leader. And I am very excited to have Brandon Fetterly joining the administrative staff. He brings an incisive mind and great energy to the position.”
Fetterly lives in Richland Center with his wife and their children. To contact him, send email to email@example.com or phone (608) 647-6186, Extension 103.
