UW-Richland 2013 Roadrunner Road Rallye winners named


Cars driven by John Poole, Jeff Bakken, and Aharon Zorea took top place honors in the UW-Richland 2013 Roadrunner Road Rallye (RRR) held Friday, May 4, a rainy day.

The 42st annual question-direction competition attracted 85 people, members of 28 teams, for a 59.2-mile, two-hour-and-sixteen-minute road trip that ended at Cazenovia Memorial Park, assuming one had perfect time, perfect mileage and ended up in the right place. Of the 28 cars, 23 completed the rallye with scores ranging from -330 to -3600. One team was disqualified for opening the panic envelope and four teams did not report to the finish line.

In the Student Division, the winning “Lunch Ladies” team included, in addition to driver and assistant campus dean for student affairs John Poole, navigator Mike Schwichtenberg, a student from Wonewoc; from UW-Richland Food Service Laurie Allen, Richland Center, and Angie Arneson, Westby; students Stephanie Kopenhafer, Wonewoc, and Sarah Freese, Richland Center; and Dr. Amanuel Teweldemedhin, associate professor of mathematics.  

In the Faculty/Staff Division, the 2013 winners were led by driver Dr. Aharon Zorea, associate professor of history, and his mother-in-law Carol Sander, navigator. Other team members were Stephanie Kernik, UW-Richland mathematics instructor, and additional members of the Zorea family, Deb, Jonah and Jacob. The Zorea team finished in 6th place overall with a score of -655.

In the Alumni Division, the winning team led by driver Jeff Bakken and navigator Cherith Dilley, finished in second place overall with a score of -342.5. Chase Dilley and Robin DeFabio were passengers. They are from the Blue River area.

 Best in Questions/Answers honors went to the Richland Center team of driver Barb Scott, navigator Marilyn Peckham, and passengers John Carter, Jason Marshall, Brian Scott and Logan Scott.

Best Time honors went to the student team of driver Luke Bay, Boscobel; navigator Hunter Mathews, Viola; passengers Jeff Koschkee, Verona; and Jonathan Jones, Tomah. They had an overall score of -1055 finishing in 12th place.
