University of Wisconsin-Richland Graduation and Awards Night 2014 is scheduled for Friday, May 9. Ceremonies, to be held in the Coppertop Theatre on campus, begin at 7pm.
Wisconsin Senator Dale Schultz will give the graduation address. In a speech entitled “Don’t Be Afraid to Choose the Rapids,” Schultz will discuss the importance of the liberal arts for leaders of Southwest Wisconsin, of following your passions and acting on what you believe. A resident of Richland Center, he was elected to the Wisconsin Assembly in 1982 and the State Senate in 1991. In 1975 he graduated from UW-Madison, where he played basketball and was a member of the UW national champion rowing team. He’s been recognized for his work on agriculture and insurance issues. He and his wife own and manage their family’s farm, which became a Wisconsin Century Farm in 1998. He is a member of the Wisconsin Farm Bureau, the Masons, and the Lions. In addition to his official legislative duties, Senator Schultz is a member of the Wisconsin Historical Society Board of Curators. He’s active with the National Conference of State Legislators, and the National Conference of Insurance Legislators .
