The UW-Richland Alumni Association’s Fall Alumni Day held on Saturday, October 1, was a celebration of accomplishment, community spirit, and history as 110 guests converged on the Wallace Student Center to share in the festivities. The fall of 2016 marks the start of the 50th year of operation for what was once known as the Richland Campus of Wisconsin State University-Platteville and so it was an extra special gathering.
Five Outstanding Alumni Award recipients were inducted into the Association’s honor society for their career accomplishments and contributions to community. Representing the Class of 1964 and the Richland County Teachers College era were Ron E. Benish of Highland and Patricia Greeley of Richland Center. UW-Richland era honorees included John Sumwalt, Class of 1971, of Cazenovia; Natalia Sokolova, Class of 2001, of London, U.K.; and, Mark Jelinek, Class of 2001, of Richland Center.
Eleven members of the Class of 1966 were present to celebrate their 50-year reunion and one member of the Class of 1956 was there to observe the 60-year milestone.
During the aanual meeting portion of the gathering, alumni elected the following individuals to board positions:
President: Kathy Granger, Class of 1966, Hillsboro
Treasurer: Derek Kalish, Class of 2003, Woodstock
Board Member Positions:
Ken Thiede, Class of 1978, Muscoda
Kathy Neckar, Class of 1998, Blue River
A very special aspect of the day’s event was the visit by Marjorie Wallace, former president of the Richland County Teachers College and former dean of UW-Richland. She is a member of the Class of 1941.
