David Kopitzke was born in northern Michigan and raised in Wisconsin and Indiana. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Biology and Art from Earlham College, a Quaker school in Richmond, Indiana before entering graduate school at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. There he earned a Master’s degree in Plant Ecology. Since that time, he has had a variety of work experiences - teaching in Japan, working as a Curator at the Milwaukee Public Museum, starting a native plant nursery business, protecting rare species with the Wisconsin Bureau of Endangered Resources and teaching at UW-Richland. At UW-R he has taught courses in Introductory Biology, Botany, Ecology and Tropical Ecology in Belize. David’s teaching goals are for students to acquire basic biological information, gain skills in judging the reliability of sources of information and make connections between the activities of human beings and the biological systems upon which we all depend.
