John Poole, assistant dean for student affairs at the University of Wisconsin-Richland, was on March 8 named as recipient of the UW Colleges 2012 Nora McGuire Outstanding Academic Staff Member in Student Affairs. Staff members from the 13 UW Colleges campus student affairs offices across the state are eligible for nomination and a single individual is chosen.
“John Poole’s love of this institution and his belief that we really are the best place for students of southwestern Wisconsin to begin their higher education,” was cited in his nomination, which also acknowledged his positive, can-do attitude, and “an amazing ability to maintain relationships with students, faculty and staff.”
It was noted that students trust and value John’s guidance and that he “goes the extra mile to make sure that UW-Richland students have the best experience they possibly can.”
Also noted in his nomination is that his colleagues are “amazed at the number and range of tasks he is able to accomplish in a single day.”
Outside the office, Poole, a lifelong Richland Center resident, is an involved and respected member of the Richland area community.
Though Poole has announced plans to retire at the end of May, nominators noted that he continues to identify adjustments and improvements that could be made next year and beyond. “John always seems to be a step ahead and has his eye toward the future,” nominators noted.
