Campus wireless network access
The wireless network covers all campus buildings, and all student accounts are enabled for access. Here's how to use it:
- Your wireless adapter should detect the network "rlnpublic" - connect to it.
- Open your web browser; it should present you with the Richland Wireless Portal login page.
- Enter your campus username and password, then click "Submit Login".
If you've completed the above steps successfully, your browser should redirect to its regular default page, and you should have full and normal Internet access. If you are inactive on the wireless network for more than 45 minutes, your web browser will redirect you again to the Richland Wireless Portal login page to resubmit your username and password.
General Access Computer Labs
UW Richland has two general access computer labs and one iMac lab (available with faculty permission and supervision).
- Science Hall Room 105: This is general access lab that is open every morning from 6:30 AM to 8:30 AM. It has 24 Dell OptiPlex workstations, a black and white printer, a color printer and a projector. After 8:30 AM it is used as a classroom lab and can be reserved by faculty for teaching purposes.
- Miller Memorial Library Lab: This is the main general access lab that is open from 8:30 AM until 9:00 PM Monday through Thursday, 8:30 AM until 4:00 PM on Friday, and 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Sunday. This lab has 36 Dell OptiPlex workstations (six of which are open for community use - inquiries about these computers can be made to the circulation desk staff), a black and white printer, a color printer and a scanner.
- East Building iMac Lab: This lab is available with faculty permission and supervision. It contains 12 new (2010) 27 inch iMac computers loaded with Adobe Production Premium software. There are also 12 USB audio keyboards available to use for music composition. Two printers, a color and a black and white, are available along with a scanner that allows you to scan a document to your email.
The PCs in the general access computer labs run Microsoft Windows 7 Enterprise. Software installed on the computers includes Microsoft Office 2007, Visual Studio, Google SketchUp, Google Earth, and much more. The scanners that are located in the Miller Memorial Computer Lab and in the East Building iMac Lab are available to scan documents directly to email and are computer-independent (which means that they are not attached to a PC that might be tied up during busy times).
Obtain academic discounts on software
Microsoft, Adobe and others provide steep software discounts for college students. When looking for a particular piece of software, be sure to check both sites below. The University Bookstore tends to have a wider selection of software than WISC, but WISC often has the lowest prices.
